Today, Sept. 28, is the birthday of Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy or simply Jeezy.

The gravelly voiced MC has made a name for himself in the rap game since the early 2000′s. First going by the stage moniker Lil J, Jeezy dropped his own independent debut album Thuggin’ Under the Influence (T.U.I) in 2001. Jeezy’s street bars and steadfast conviction caught the ears of the music industry and he soon signed to Def Jam Records where he dropped his debut studi album, Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101 in 2005.Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101 boasted three chart topping singles, “And Then What” “Soul Survivor” and “My Hood” which shot Young Jeezy to stardom.

Always keeping his connection with the streets, Jeezy has collaborated with Southern greats like Gucci Mane and 2 Chainz as well as Birdman, Jay Z and E-40.

In anticipation for his eighth album, Church In These Streets, Jeezy recently released a conscious rap titled “God” and an open letter about societal injustices, giving fans a hint of where he’s going next musically.

Happy Birthday, Jeezy!
