At the beginning of the year, DJ Premier announced he would be dropping an album that payed homage to New York City’s famed D&D Studio which closed in January after nearly 25 years of operation. The album, he said, would be named Last Session at 320, in reference to the lab’s address on 320 West 37th Street. Ten months later and more details on the project have been revealed. Premo recently sat down for an interview with HipHop4Life and announced the project will feature some heavy hitters including, Nas, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ed Sheeran, Christina Aguilera, Black Moon, Smif-n-Wessun, Heltah Skeltah and possibly Eminem.
Along with the album, the legendary producer has also put together a documentary about the studio that will accompany the LP. There is still no release date for the album.
In 2003, Preemo bought the studio from its founders and renamed it to HeadQcourterz, in honor of his late friend Kenneth “HeadQcourterz” Walker. In the 12 years since, it’s been the starting point for hits for artists including Gang Starr, Rakim, KRS-One, Biggie, Nas, Jay Z, Common and others.
